Where do you feel closest to nature?

Recently Contiki ran an awesome competition to win a trip to Costa Rica. All you had to answer was, “where do you feel closest to nature?” My answer is in water. It’s part of who we are, so much so that we would die without it. Some of the greatest adventures happen out at sea, or rafting down rivers. I’m not very good at surfing, but I love just paddling out to sea and being a floating spec bobbing in the vastness of the ocean. This is where I feel closest to nature.

I decided to answer their question the best way I know how. Through film. I gathered some awesome footage in my archive and shot some new footage, merging it together in an explosion of sound and colour. Yes, every shot is mine, even those awesome ones. I also took the opportunity to poke fun at the dreariness of the work place. That office shot was actually at one of my clients.

Whilst I’ve been editing a big upcoming Srizzil project, I’ve learnt how important foley tracks are. These are the sounds added to a movie after it’s been shot to make it seem more real. I took the opportunity here to play around a bit with those and add foley tracks into this video. They really make such a big difference in making everything feel more natural, and if you don’t notice them, that’s when they’re working the best.

Some say I’m the most handsome man in the world (my mom), others tend to disagree, but one thing is certain – I love to entertain. Whether it be through music, writing, or film, seeing people respond with a smile is worth more than a bag of gold. Figuratively obviously, because smiles are free and gold is very expensive.
